Avis Car Rental Malawi on Thursday donated a K5 million reconditioned Toyota Hilux pick-up to the Department of Civil Aviation at Chileka International Airport in Blantyre.
Avis Managing Director Munir Omar said the gesture is part of the company’s corporate social responsibility.
“In line with our corporate social responsibility, we have been interacting with government, especially at Chileka International Airport where we have our station where we serve customers daily. We thought we should assist them,” Omar said.
He said they vehicle would be used in the maintenance of the runway at the airport.
Omar said in the previous years Avis Malawi has taken part in a number of corporate social responsibility initiatives, supporting areas such as education where they transported learning materials to various schools and the health sector where they constructed a shelter at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital.
Chileka International Airport Commandant, Dixie Kwatani, commended Avis for the donation.
Kwatani said the vehicle would assist in managing of some activities at the airport.
Kwatani asked other companies and organisations to emulate the gesture by Avis.
